16 Drivers Caught in FRSC’s ‘Zero‑Speed‑Violation’ Crackdown on Sagamu‑Abeokuta Road

The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rolled out a high‑visibility speed‑control operation on the busy Sagamu‑Abeokuta corridor on Wednesday, aiming to shave 10 % off road‑traffic fatalities and injuries by the end of 2025.

Acting under the 2025 Corporate Strategic Goal‑1, Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin led a joint team that included the Head of Operations, deploying a laser radar gun to spot motorists exceeding the posted limits.

In a swift sweep, the patrol team booked sixteen drivers for over speeding.

Each offender was not only issued a citation but also had a speed‑limiting device fitted to their vehicle before being allowed to leave. “Speeding is the single biggest killer on our roads,” Fasakin warned the motorists.

“We’re here to protect lives, not just write tickets.” He added that the operation would run throughout the Yuletide season, with more checkpoints planned for other high‑risk stretches across the state.

The Sector Commander also took the opportunity to remind road users about the dangers of over‑loading and reckless driving.

“When you overload a vehicle or push it beyond the speed limit, you’re putting yourself, your passengers, and other road users at risk,” he said, urging everyone to prioritize safety over haste.

FRSC officials explained that the laser radar gun provides accurate, real‑time speed readings, making it impossible for drivers to contest the charges.

The speed‑limiting devices are calibrated to the legal limit for the road, ensuring that once installed, the vehicle cannot exceed it.

The special intervention patrol is part of a broader enforcement and awareness campaign that will continue through the festive period. Motorists are encouraged to obey speed limits, avoid overloading, and keep their speed‑limiting devices functional.

The FRSC assures Ogun residents that a safer motoring environment is the ultimate goal, and the command remains committed to making the state’s highways safer for all.
