Insecurity: NAOSS Backs Southern Governors’ Call for State Policing

The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has thrown its weight behind the Southern Governors’ Forum’s call for state policing in Nigeria.

NAOSS, an umbrella body for students who are indigenes of Ogun State, made this known through a statement jointly signed by its National President, Olubodun Olalekan, and General Secretary, Adesanya Peter Ifedayo, on Wednesday.

NAOSS says it supports the forum’s approach, stating that state policing will strengthen community participation and enhance border protection.

The Southern Governors’ Forum, led by the Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, had emphasized that state policing is non-negotiable in tackling Nigeria’s complex security challenges.

The students’ body argued that state policing has become imperative amid rising insecurity concerns across the country.

It confirmed that decentralized policing would improve intelligence gathering and protect vulnerable areas such as schools and farms.

“NAOSS will continue to actively engage with the state government to push for improved security measures,” the statement read.

“As the debate on state policing continues, NAOSS remains committed to amplifying the voices of Ogun State students. The student body is ready to support the Southern Governors’ Forum’s efforts to address Nigeria’s security challenges.”
