NANS, NAOSS Warn Students Against Endorsing Politicians Ahead of 2027 Elections
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) have cautioned student associations in Ogun State against endorsing politicians vying for public offices in the 2027 general election.
In a joint statement signed by Akinbodunse Sileola Felicia, National Vice President of NANS, and Olubodun Olalekan, National President of NAOSS, the student bodies described such endorsements as unacceptable, emphasizing that students are in school to acquire knowledge and excel academically, not to engage in partisan politics.
The associations condemned a recent endorsement of Senator Gbenga Daniel by a faction of NANS in Ogun State, distancing themselves from the move.
They urged students to focus on their academic pursuitside and avoid being used as political pawns.
The statement applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration for transforming the education sector and constructing roads across the state.
“Governor Abiodun’s administration has made significant strides in education development, including signing into law the appointment of Principals-General and Headmasters-General, allowing teachers to attain positions equivalent to that of Permanent Secretary in the mainstream civil service,” the statement read.
The associations commended the governor’s efforts in improving infrastructure, learning tools, and integrating ICT across the education sector in Ogun.
They also praised the administration’s reconstruction of over 1,600 kilometers of roads since 2019.
“We reiterate our unwavering support for the incumbent administration and pledge to sensitize students on the importance of focusing on their studies,” the statement added.
