Outrage As Soldier Kills 13-Year-Old Boy In Akwa Ibom
A 13-year-old boy, Timothy Daniel, was shot dead by a soldier attached to a private facility in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State, on New Year’s Day.
The incident occurred around 12:05 a.m. as Timothy and his 15-year-old sister, Miracle Daniel, were returning from a church service.
According to eyewitnesses, the soldier had made advances towards Miracle, which led to altercations between them before the soldier allegedly opened fire, killing Timothy who was standing close to his sister instantly.
The incident sparked outrage in the community, with residents damaging property and blocking roads.
The Nigerian Army has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation. Captain Lawal Bala Mohamed from the Army Public Relations Department, stated that the matter is being handled by the military police.
The community has condemned the killing, calling for justice and accountability.
The Mboho Ukpum Ete community group described the act as “unacceptable” and demanded punishment for the soldier responsible.
